Are you thinking of moving or relocating to Santa Fe, New Mexico? Would you like to know what the quality of life is like living in Santa Fe?
Emily Walburger reports in this review:
WeatherHow much crime? What are the neighborhoods like? What are the people like?
Santa Fe's climate runs a wide scale: hot summers and cold winters. Summers are quite warm, and can become uncomfortably so... it's in one's best interest to have a good air conditioner. Highs in the summer run from the mid 90's to low 100's. Winters are very chilly with lows occasionally in the negative digits and a handful of good snowfalls through the winter months. High winds are possible across the desert.Crime is a bit higher than average in Santa Fe. There is a high Hispanic and Native American population, and a number of noted gangs. Theft and burglary rates are high, with auto thefts also noted. Assaults are frequently heard of as well, and every now and then a news story will report a murder. The best parts of town in Santa Fe are near the downtown plaza area, or "old" Santa Fe, where a unique blend of homes and churches are situated. This area is where the majority of tourists congregate. The historical architecture of the buildings is quite exquisite. Homes in the area are well kept and expensive. The poorer areas of town tend to be further from the city center, more towards the outskirts and the freeways of I15 and I25.Santa Fe has an eclectic mix of people that are drawn to the city. There are a lot of young single professionals, and the "Southwestern hippie" types, as well as married couples and families. There are good number of artists and writers, as well as wealthy retirees. The majority of people are either white or Hispanic, with the third largest group of people claiming Native American ancestry. Blacks and Asians are by far the minorities.
Downtown AreaRestaurantsSchoolsSingle life
The downtown area and shopping is one unlike any other. The boutique shops, trendy museums and popular restaraunts make the downtown experience simply amazing.Santa Fe's authentic Mexican cuisine is unparalleled. Tia Sophia's offers a unique menu and attractive atmosphere. Tomasita's is a wonderful family-friendly restaurant serving dishes with authentic flavor.Santa Fe has a good-quality public education system, with three public high schools and a number of public elementary schools. Schools tend to be arts focused and perform well in testing. There's an adequate singles scene, and a good number of events and festivals that provide singles interaction.
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
Noise is not generally a problem in Santa Fe. The usual highway and freeway noise exists on the outskirts of town.Santa Fe could be considered a better place to live than Albuquerque. Although the cost of living is slightly higher in Santa Fe, the lower population and amount of traffic make it a more desirable locale.
Santa Fe could be considered a better place to live than Taos, which tends to be a more exclusive community with a very high cost of living.
Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center provides excellent acute, critical, and emergency care services. There is no shortage of places to visit in Santa Fe. Some attractions include the historic downtown plaza and Palace of the Governors, the Santa Fe International Folk Art Market, the annual Fiestas de Santa Fe, and vast array of museums. There are endless outdoor activities and endless desert to explore.
General comments
The feeling in Santa Fe is truly unique from any other city. Founded by Native American tribes, the city has an authentic character and Southwestern feel, that can only be described as "Santa-Fe style." This Spanish influence can be felt wherever you go. It's the kind of place where you can spend the morning hiking the desert, the afternoon walking through shops and museums, and the evening enjoying an outdoor festival.
