The weather in Skokie mirrors the weather in the city of Chicago. The temperature varies from Chicago by very little. It is about 2 degrees higher in the summer and 2 degrees lower in the winter. Residents don't worry about crime as they do in the city of Chicago. The downtown area is walkable with many small businesses and restaurants. Nearby is the Old Orchard Shopping Center which is a major mall of of the north suburbs of Chicago.On the south end of the suburb is the Village Crossing shopping center and also a Walmart across the street. | | Skokie has many restaurants including Maggiano's, The Cheesecake Factory, Village Inn for pizza, Portillo's for great beef sandwiches, Buffalo Wild Wings, Chipotle Mexican Grill and many others. | | The public schools are highly rated. If yo live near the expressway, you can expect to hear the news helicopters during rush hour, or if there is a major accident on the Edens Expressway. | | Skokie is the home to Northshore Skokie Hospital. | | The Emily Woods Nature Center is beautiful and has many programs for children through adults. | | It has the feeling of a small village. People smile and wave at one another. There are numerous small businesses, which the resident support. It is a pleasant, stress-free place to live. The village itself provides serves not available in other suburbs, such as plowing the sidewalks after it snows. |
