Chelsea reports in this review:
WeatherHow much crime? What are the neighborhoods like? What are the people like?
Smithtown gives it's residents and visitors the luxury of four seasons. There are many trees in Smithtown, which allots to a colorful fall and spring. Summer is hot- typically in the 80s and some winters are worse than others. Normally, there is at least one or two major snowstorms int he winter (by major I mean approximately 2 feet of snow).Crime in Smithtown is not something that one should worry over. Crime typically consists of young kids shoplifting and some drinking and driving. If a larger crime, such as homocide, occurs it is a VERY big deal and very surprising. Drugs have been an issue throughout Smithtown in recent years, however if visiting Smithtown you probably won't even notice.Main Street between Edgewood and Hauppauge Road is a great part of town because there are a ton of stores, bars and restaurants on this road. One can consider this the downtown part of Smithtown. Behind main street the homes are suburban, upper middle class, and have large yards. Most homes in other areas of Smithtown, such those off of Jericho Tpke are also upper middle class and very suburban. Typically, young families and older families with kids still in grade school live in Smithtown. You get a very homey feeling when you explore any residential area in town.Smithtown works well for young and middle aged families. Neighborhoods are very friendly and often times you see neighbors and families hanging out and going on trips with one another. Most adults are well educated and work either in New York City or on the island. Smithtown has a large caucasian population. Young recent graduates would probably find Smithtown to be a bit boring post-college. It is hard for young adults to meet people in this town, being that it is mostly family oriented.

The downtown shopping center is on Main Street. Though there aren't many clothing stores, you can shop for a variety of things. The area has a nice mix of retail stores and mom and pop shops. Also, there are plenty of bars and restaurants in the area for when you want to stop for a bite to eat. Overall, the area is extremely accessible and convenient.H2O Restaurant on Main Street has a great vibe and great food. It's always bustling and filled with a great bunch of people of all ages. Butera's is also on Main Street - awesome authentic Italian food. The public schools are nationally ranked. Great schools with a great education system and security. It is hard for singles being that most people are married and have families. To meet people one can simply hop on a train into NYC.
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
There is train track that runs throughout Smithtown. Depending on the area you are in, you can sometimes hear this.Smithtown is next to Commack and Hauppauge. Smithtown is nicer than Hauppague because it has less crime, a better school district and is a bit more affluent. Smithtown and Commack are very similar. Commack homes have slightly less property (most of the time) than Smithtown homes.St. Catherine's is the local hospital. It is a great hospital for women who are expecting. As for more serious conditions, one should look into North Shore LIJ, which is a 30 minute drive from Smithtown. There is a lake in smithtown behind "The Bull" statue located off of Jericho Tpke and St. Johnland road. This is a great place to bring the kids or a date for some fishing or relaxation. Similarly, Caleb Smith St. Park is also a great place to explore and learn about nature.
General comments
Smithtown feels like the perfect place to have a childhood. It's a great and cozy town to go back to, however it can get boring to those who are young vivacious and don't have families to care for. Smithtown is a town where a young family can start a great life. It is a safe town with lots to do and accessibility to the freeway and LIRR. The greenery in town makes Smithtown feel warm and beautiful. No matter what season it is Smithtown looks beautiful.
