St. George's weather is somewhat different from the rest of Utah's, with much warmer and longer summers. Summer temperatures soar to the high 90's and low 100's. The hot desert weather is reluctant to leave in the fall, lingering till October and November, when average temperatures drop to 70's and 60's. Even in the coldest months, temperatures warm to the 50's. Rain is minimal in this dry town, not even an inch monthly, and some months in the summer receive none at all. Snow is also scarce, with mere dustings of the white stuff over the course of a season. | | St. George is not without its fair share of criminal activity. The highest amount of crime in St. George tends to be from theft and burglaries. Armed robberies make up a smaller percentage of burglaries, and auto theft is also reported regularly. Assaults are also reported, but violent crime such as murder and rape are very low. In general, the city is a place where you feel safe to walk the streets, but would certainly be unlikely to leave your doors unlocked. | | The most desirable areas of St. George are located near the center of town, on Stake Farm and Fort Pierce Roads. This area is located near the Mormon temple as well as convenient shopping. The home values in this area are the city's highest, and houses are beautiful and well cared for.
Less desirable areas of town tend to be more on the outskirts. Some of these areas include Middleton and Washington, along E. Telegraph Street. Although not run-down by any means, the area's property values are lower, and homes tend to be older and less meticulously cared for. | | St. George is a diverse community of blue and white collar, old and young. There are a good number of professionals, as well as salespeople and other service-oriented professions. St. George's residents tend to be well educated and hard working. Outdoor enthusiasts tend to be drawn to St. George's spectacular mountains and warm weather. There are a lot of families and young children in the area, owing somewhat to the predominantly (greater than 90%) Mormon religion, as well as a large population of polygamists. |

The downtown district has been revitalized in recent years and features an attractive array of shops and restaurants. Patrons are also drawn to the outlet mall, which offers opportunities for less-than-retail bargains. | | The Painted Pony is a favorite grill for gourmet burgers and sandwiches. Capalletti's is a great Italian restaurant with a large menu and authentic feel. | | St. George has numerous public schools, including charter high schools, performing at or above US standards. Class sizes are usually low with favorable teacher-student ratios. St. George is also home to Dixie State University. | | St. George has a great singles' scene. Night life is active, with a number of trendy pubs and restaurants. There are always concerts, festivals and other events held in the city's outdoor amphitheater. |

Most noise comes from the nearby Interstate 15. Concerts and outdoor events from the Dixie Convention Center and the Tuachan Amphitheater can get pretty loud. | | While always comparing towns is always subjective, when making a comparison with nearby Kanab, St. George could be considered the better place to live. St. George has expansive shopping outlets and excellent dining opportunities, while tiny Kanab has very few amenities.
St. George could also be considered superior to Salt Lake City, its neighbor to the north. St. George has very little traffic, and a shorter commute for its residents than does SLC. St. George also has less than half the population of Salt Lake City, the state's crowded capital. | | Dixie Regional Medical Center is a great full service, critical and emergency care hospital that also treats patients from surrounding states. | | St. George is home to amazing outdoor recreation, as well as expansive golf courses and resorts. The St. George Opera House, Tuachan Amphitheater, and St. George Art and Children's Museums are all popular attractions. The city hosts the St. George Marathon and Ironman Triathalon are held in summer. |

St. George has an exciting vibe, a feeling that there is always something to do and experience. The sweeping mountain views and desert breezes give the city a resort-like air, drawing tourists and vacationers to its spas and golf courses. People smile at one another, and the downtown atmosphere is friendly and vibrant. This lesser-known desert oasis is most certainly a retreat not to be missed; a place where you might end up extending your stay a few days longer than planned. | | | | | | |
