Shelby reports in this review:
WeatherHow much crime? What are the neighborhoods like? What are the people like?
This climatic region is typified by large seasonal temperature differences, with warm to hot (and often humid) summers and cold (sometimes severely cold) winters. During the worst winter- we can drop down around -60 F, and during our worst summers we can hit a high of 110 F. Not to mention the EXTREMELY strong wind (compliments of the northern territory) and heavy rainfall. Also- we've been known to have bouts of large hail even in the summer months. If you're ready for some extreme seasons- ND is the place to be!
Here's a fun-fact, every inhabited place in ND is considered a city. Even with a population of 3, it's still a city!
A very important piece of advice- buy your winter-wear IN NORTH DAKOTA. No other state besides (occasionally) Montana and Minnesota experience the weather we do and it is so important to be prepared for it!
Over the past few years with the Military base bringing people in and now the oil boom- this has cause our population to skyrocket and along with that comes the crime. Currently at an all-time high, ND is not a safe place anymore. Especially in the smaller cities. It is so very important to remember to keep an eye on kids at ALL TIMES, lock your doors to your house and vehicles at night, make sure nothing you own is left open to the naked eye. This also means chaining up your equipment and closing/locking the garage door. With so many people running through the streets of Minot/Surrey/Burlington- nothing is safe. The types of crime include them all- breaking and entering, assault, kidnapping, theft, rape, murder, MANY drug and alcohol related arrests, ect. Just keep in mind- it's not safe. Be on your guard.
Please keep in mind- Surrey only has 2-3 police on duty at all times. Be careful, these guys stay pretty busy.
The best part of Surrey is driving right through it 7 miles down the road from Minot. There are so many park, shoppings centers, eateries, banks, hospitals and churches. Surry has a few bars, a bank, a school, a park, and residential homes. This is a great city for someone who is looking for the paycheck you can get living in minot- but the only pay half the rent they charge by residing in Surrey.
Surrey was founded on June 18, 1900, and named after Surrey, England, by Great Northern Railway officials.[6] It was one of several sites along the Great Northern's transcontinental route between Devils Lake and Minot that were named after places in England (the others were Berwick, Leeds, Norwich, Penn, Rugby, Tunbridge, and York).

In 1910, Surrey gained notoriety as being the point where construction began on a shortening of the Great Northern transcontinental route. This construction progressed eastward and was completed in 1912.
Much of the population of Surrey, ND is made of of parents and thei familes. As mentioned earlier- Many of those who live in Surrey work in Minot and enjoy nearly half off of a rental rate. Along with the families- there are quite a few senior citizens and regular working class joes. If you don't cause much trouble and are generally a polite person- you should have no trouble at all fitting into this community! It's perfect for a lot- a school within walking distance of EVERY house, a city park, not too big but just close enough to a big city. We've got all types- blue collar, educated, hippie, and the elite. Any kind of person would easily be able to find their niche in this place!

You're best bet to find whatever you need is to head to Minot during the day. Surrey is not home to many shops and again- everyone who lives here are working and basically living in Minot, just sleeping in Surrey. There are only a few diners and I have to be honest- the gas station food is the only food in Surrey worth paying for. Believe me. The bar does serve snacks and appetizers but not a full meal. There is one school in Surrey. Their mascot is the Mustang and they give all the kids an option to be involved with basketball, football, tennis, track and field, and multiple other programs. Not much of an opportunity here for finding love. As I mentioned earlier- most people who live here have families or are already married. If you still feel like trying- I'd recommend joining a dating website or travel the whopping 7 miles to Minot and meet someone there. Many more choices!
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
The only unusual noise source would be cause by animals, heavy trucks, equipment, and the 10 pm curfew bell that rings every night to remind minors to head home- CURFEW! All of ND does this except the four major cities.Surrey is very close to Minot, anything and everything you need is found there. What you do have available are a few churches, a diner, a gas station, a post office, a school and a couple bars. Not much happening but once in awhile they'll plan a street dance, a softball team and have teams/tournaments in pool and darts.
Most of the people who live here work in minot and the rest are either children or senior citizens. It's a quaint little place- a quiet little peaceful town.
Don't waste your time. The hospital is the equivalence of a walk-in. Most patients end up getting transferred to Trinity Hospital in Minot. They can take care of just about anything there! The nicest place would be the park. Often decorated and lanscape kept up with. You'll find kids here everyday, winter and summer, having a good time. Also- if you decide to venture out on the back roads and such- you won't be disappointed! The sky and scenery if absolutely gorgeous!
General comments
This town has a 'homey' feeling. Small town America. Mom and Pop in the rockers on the porch. Grandkids playing with the dog. Apple pie cooling on the window ledge. This is exactly what this town feels like- a nice quaint place to slow down and enjoy yourself, the day, and the gorgeous sky you'll find anywhere in ND!
This is a place to calm and slow down. To taste your food and watch the sun set. This is a great city to live in if you are needing peace and quiet.
