Weather	How much crime?	What are the neighborhoods like?	What are the people like?
The winters range from cold and rainy to warm and sunny. warm winter. Late January to Mid-February weather is generally the coldest that the town experiences. Under normal conditions, the weather in the winter and spring is rainy. The summers are usually dry. The winters can seem colder than the thermostat tells due to a steady breeze off Galveston Bay that usually blows 20 mph or faster. For the past several years, the entire state of Texas has been in a drought. During the summer, the weather is usually hot and dry with temperatures ranging from the upper 80s to upper 90s during the day. Hurricane threats are usually greatest here from late July through the second week of October.	Theft from open garages have happened often in town. Occasionally, homes are ransacked and doors kicked in while the homeowners are present.	The Pilgrims Landing and The Islands subdivisions are popular and relatively quiet with homes ranging from the $100K to $1 million range. The older parts of Texas City, such as the neighborhoods around College of the Mainland (Twelve Oaks, the Montecello Dr. region, etc.) are in tougher neighborhoods.	The people in Texas City are generally friendly and enjoy a small town life, such as meeting at the Fork & Spoon coffee shop first thing in the morning. The town has several chemical plants and at lunchtime, all the restaurants in town welcome the workers with open arms. The town boasts an ethnic blend of white, African American and Hispanic.

Whereas Galveston is a tourist town with high prices to attract business and the hustle and bustle of 5 million residents in Houston speaks for itself, Texas City is nestled in between the two towns and suffers in a way as Houston's urban sprawl has left many businesses traveling further up the road to the far northern part of Texas City's corporation limit. In town, there is not a lot for people to do any longer, unless you are interested in seeing movies or bowling. This is tough for the elderly and those that do not drive, despite the public transit system. But from the standpoint of enjoying a sleepy quiet town, Texas City does offer this.	The city has over 50,000 residents but as a 1997 All-America City recipient, the culture feels like a small town. When tough times happen, neighbors pitch in and help one another, especially after hurricanes. The Art Festival in April is another celebration that feels like home.
