Are you thinking of moving or relocating to Toms River, New Jersey? Would you like to know what the quality of life is like living in Toms River?
Jake Dempsey reports in this review:
WeatherHow much crime? What are the neighborhoods like? What are the people like?
The weather in Toms River is rather typical of the Mid-Atlantic Corridor, in the sense that there are hot summers and very cold and wet winters. In the summer it is not unusual for us to see several severe thunderstorms and a rare tornado or hurricane. In the winter we normally get at least two nor'easter storms that produce several inches of snow and ice that snare traffic and close the schools for days on end. There is a fair amount of crime in this area that is mostly based off of youth problems such as underage drinking, drug dealing, and theft that is meant to support a habit or drug trade. While the majority of the town is filled with hard-working adults, there are still many young people that would rather take money and drugs and take the highway over to Seaside Heights to have all night parties. While the police have been cracking down on this problem, they still have a long way to go to completely control the crime.Anywhere that is south of the eponymous Toms River is typically the best part of the town that is filled with a diverse groups of races and classes, but for the most part middle- middle class. The houses are late 70s to 80s homes that are two stories and have large yards, with a few historic homes. The same can be said for the area that is north of the river, but the people in this area tend to be younger and more focused on spending their parents' money on parties and drugs. For the most part the people in this town are young to middle aged, educated, white collar, and white. However, there has been a recent upswing in the amount of cultural and racial diversity which has been welcomed with open arms for the most part. The only people that do not fit in well in this town are those that are college-aged, yuppies that assume that they can be loud and obnoxious without any regard for the others around them. Fortunately, they are usually relegated to the northern part of the town, which many people avoid.
Downtown AreaRestaurantsSchoolsSingle life
The downtown shopping area is very nice in this town, with both small shops and major retail entities available. The best restaurants are the Tuscan Bistro and a little place called Shut Up and Eat.The public schools are great, with amazing scholastic and extracurricular sports achievements. There are many opportunities for singles to be found in the bars and clubs of the north end of town.
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
There is a lot traffic coming from the highways that is a source of unusual noise. One of the neighboring towns is the shore town called Seaside heights. While it used to be a fine destination for families to spend time, that all changed when the show Jersey Shore started filming in the area. Since then it has become a partying central for people, mostly young college students. The shopping is nice but the cost of living is higher than Toms River. For the sake of some peace, Toms River is a better place to live. Another neighboring town is called Bayville, and it is built on a large inlet bay behind the barrier town of Seaside Heights. They have some amazing shopping areas to go into and the people are very accepting of everyone else, even though they tend to be older. Given the lack of excitement in this town, it is better to live in Toms River. The local hospital is called Community Medical Center which is famous for its long waits in the emergency room. The nicest places to visit are the parks along the river and the Ocean County Library.
General comments
The town itself has two distinct portions, the suburban and the urban portion. The suburban portion is nice because there are homes, yards, and white picket fences with kind and caring neighbors. However, to have a little bit of excitement can be a little bit too much to ask for in this area, so many people prefer the urban part that is full of amazing shopping areas as well as many entertainment venues. Overall, everyone can find something that they like in this town.
