The weather is hot in the summer. In July and August highs can be in the high 90's and above. In winter it seldom snows. The highs in December and January are in the 50's and lows in the 30's.There is gang related crime in Tyler, mostly in north Tyler. Theft, burglaries, and assaults are common. Murders occur but not too many.Tyler is expanding south. North Tyler is mostly black and Hispanic. some bad areas are those north of Martin Luther King Drive. Some good areas are those around the Holly Tree Country Club. South Tyler is mostly white.The people are friendly and conservative. There are many churches. Tyler is in the Bible Belt. The Population is about 50% white, 25% black, and 20% Hispanic. It's easy to meet people in Tyler.

Tyler is making an effort to preserve the downtown. There are the Brick Streets Historic District of houses built in the early 1900's and the the Charnwood Residential Historical District. There is shopping downtown and two malls, the newest being the Broadway Square Mall.There are too many restaurants in Tyler to list. Traditions is an upscale buffet restaurant. Stanley's Famous Pit Bar B-Q serves great barbeque. Villa Montez serves very good Mexican food.Tyler schools are not highly rated. The nearby towns of Lindale and Whitehouse have very good schools. Many people move to these towns so that their children can attend school.There are many clubs and bars and restaurants in the Tyler area. Some churches sponsor events and clubs for singles.

I 20 nearby is a noise source.The nearest town of this size is Longview. There is rivalry between Tyler and Longview. Tyler is larger and growing faster.Tyler is a regional medical center. There is the East Texas Medical Center, Mother Frances Heath System, and the University of Texas Health Science Center.The Liberty Hall theater is a restored theater shows old movies. There is the Rose Museum. Tyler produces many rosebushes. There is the Caldwell Zoo. Lake Tyler is popular for fishing and water sports. There si also the East Texas State Fair.
