Life in Vineland, New Jersey

Vineland Reviews New Jersey Message Board
City/State
Are you thinking of moving or relocating to Vineland, New Jersey? Would you like to know what the quality of life is like living in Vineland?
Jake Dempsey reports in this review:
WeatherHow much crime? What are the neighborhoods like? What are the people like?
Like most of the weather in the southern states of the Northeast, the winters in Vineland are rather chilly, but usually do not have many consecutive days of absolutely frigid weather. The average day in the winter is about forty degrees with lows in the upper twenties and thirties. Summers in this area can become very warm, with at least two heat waves, three days or more above ninety degrees. Overall, the weather is chilly in the winter, and very warm to hot in the summer. The worst type of crime that happens in Vineland is theft. Usually this comes in the form of people breaking into other people's cars and stealing their things. There is not a lot of violent crime aside from what happens during muggings, but even these are rather rare. Like any other towns there are certain rashes of burglaries that happen before the person is apprehended, but nothing too serious. There are some gangs in the town that sell drugs, but they have not been linked to any major crimes aside from drugs and theft. The best part of town in all honesty is right near the police station in the center of the town, extending to the regional high school on Maple Street. The homes here are some of the oldest and most historic in the entire town, and are usually a Gothic representation inhabited by old, white people. From Oak Street, two roads over from Maple, and east are the very bad parts of the town where the glass industry used to be set up. These areas are crime-ridden, with most of the gangs selling to people out of the abandoned houses. The houses here are a lot of low income apartments which are rather slum-like after many years of nobody caring what happens to them. For the most part, there is large divide in the town between the old folks with all of the nice houses, and the new, younger crowd who only really contributes a drug problem the town. In order to fit in at Vineland, it is best to be white, middle-class, blue collar worker because they represent the majority of individuals here. Anyone that is outside of this description is marginalized quite a bit. If you are black or Hispanic in this town, the white people just about assume that you are affiliated with a gang.

The town has typical strip malls and outlet stores that will provide everything that you need in terms of food and clothes. The town is close to a highway to go to the major cities and large malls. The chain restaurants are the best to go to except for Mandy's Diner that is close to Route 130.For the most part, the public schools in this area are below average which is typical of south Jersey. There are numerous bars, but for the most part you will not want to date anyone that goes to them.
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
Only the highway on the edges of town but that is only trouble during beach season.Bridgeton is a town that is very close to Vineland. It is better to live in Bridgeton because they have a fully funded school and police force, though a lot of the drug traffic from Vineland typically comes from the middle class families there. The cost of living is too high for people to go from Vineland to Bridgeton, and for the most part the people are much friendlier. Another town, called Millville, is a much better place to live than both because it has a massive police force and many more jobs than are offered by living in Vineland. Also, their schools are not regionalized which gives them smaller classroom sizes.Vineland Memorial: Kennedy Branch. It is good for everything but major surgeries from what I have heard. The memorial park that is dedicated to the police and fire companies in the town is the perfect place to go if you want to have a picnic or have a barbecue with friends.
General comments
I feel that the nice sections of this town are absolutely gorgeous with a great deal of rich history that the young and old members of the town can enjoy. There is a main street section that really represents the best the town has to offer in terms of stores and services. However, if you go to the bad parts of town it is like walking into some of the most dangerous parts of the worst cities. The police in the town usually steer people away from these parts of town, and do their best to prevent crime before it starts.
