Virginia Beach Reviews Virginia Message Board
City/State
Are you thinking of moving or relocating to Virginia Beach, Virginia? Would you like to know what the quality of life is like living in Virginia Beach?
Charles Langat reports in this review:
WeatherHow much crime? What are the neighborhoods like? What are the people like?
Virginia beach has fairly varied weather. Summers are hot and humid, winters are moderately cold( enough to remind you of winter), while spring is idyllic. Thunderstorms and hurricanes occur from time to time.Violent crime is still an issue of concern though police are always on patrol, especially on the beach front. Violent crime is associated with drugs. A while ago, I heard of a man who was beaten to death and police who was killed. For the most part, violent crime is associated with drugs and gangs.
Virginia Beach has a mix of good and bad neighborhoods. Bay Colony, Birdneck, Lynnhaven, Alanton, and Cape Henry have very good neighborhoods. Try to avoid the areas of Bayside, Landstown, Salem, Twin Canal Magic Run, and Green Run, Oceana, and the area after Virginia Beach Blvd.

As a tourist hub, VB has a mix of vacation rental homes, luxury condos, and beach houses. Most homes are well-maintained and the atmosphere vibrant. Rich folks live on the prestigious North End which has a mix of million-dollar mansions and beach cottages. The majority of middle class folks live in suburban areas (mostly crowded houses) in Sandbridge and Croatan Beach. Though the atmosphere is great, you will find that houses are pricey.

Virginia Beach is a liberal, multi-cultural and touristic city. As you would expect, folks are more outgoing, hippie, fun-loving, and energetic though some can appear snobbish or rude. As a tourist hub, almost all races (from whites to blacks and Hispanics and Asians) live here. The city offers great opportunities for singles though families moving here can adjust well to the fast-tempo and fun-filled lifestyle.
Downtown AreaRestaurantsSchoolsSingle life
The downtown shopping area in VB is just amazing. The Town Center offers some of the best getaways for dining and shopping. Hilltop has a series of fantastic shopping facilities and restaurants. Pembroke, the city's new downtown has numerous restaurants and high-end shops as well.Tautogs Restaurant has the best seafood and an array of American delicacies. Mannino's Italian Bistro and Burton's grill are also worth checking out.Despite the fact that VB is a tourist resort city, the quality of public schools in VB is commendable. Princess Anne, the oldest high school is widely acclaimed as the best public school in VB.Being a resort city, Virginia Beach is the perfect 'singles paradise'. You can explore the expansive ocean front, go shopping, go for a date, visit top museums, and attend oceanfront festivals. The atmosphere is energized and relaxed. You'll enjoy living here if you love culture, arts, and the oceanfront.
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
Jet noise is sometimes unbearable especially if you live near military installations within Virginia Beach.Virginia Beach is bordered by Chesapeake and Norfolk, which are suburban and great in their own respects. Virginia Beach has a touristic and fun-filled atmosphere compared to its quieter neighbors which have key military installations. Chesapeake and Norfolk are more livable compared to Virginia Beach. They also have quiet suburbs and less bustle than Virginia Beach.Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center are worth checking out.Definitely, the oceanfront with its cool breeze, pristine beaches, and a 3 mile boardwalk. If you love nature trails, First Landing State Park, Virginia Beach Aquarium, and Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge are great options. There are also several recreational parks and camps for families and singles.
General comments
Virginia Beach is a diverse and vibrant city that has an extensive ocean front and plenty of outdoor opportunities. The weather is fantastic and the beaches are pristine. The city has hundreds of restaurants and hotels which makes it more of a tourist haven than a typical working class city. Life seems to revolve around the beach and hospitality industry. Housing is varied but for the most part, rent and property prices is high Trash, big roaches, and tax are major issues of concern here. Traffic is atrocious.
