Erika Cox reports in this review:
WeatherHow much crime? What are the neighborhoods like? What are the people like?
The weather in Warrensburg is hot and humid during the summer months. Very cold and an average of five inches of snow in the winter. The fall months are cool but comfortable with the change of leaves making it a picturesque scenery. The spring months are warmer but not too cold. Spring and fall seasons are the rainy seasons. The area can and does experience tornadoes.Warrensburg is a small town that does not have much crime at all. Murders are rare, maybe one a year. Other violent crime is minimum. There was one murder that occurred there last year that was a "hit" crime - a bar owner was murdered because of a jealous acquaintance. Since it is a college town, the most common crime is probably drunk driving or illegal possession. Shoplifting, suicide, and minor theft may be another common crime in the area. The best part of town is Centerview, E Hale Lake Rd and S Maguire St. These neighborhoods are quiet and far enough away from the university. There are some college students that live in these neighborhoods but most of them are graduate students or non-traditional (older) students. Some of the homes are very nice and middle with upper class residents. Most of the residents are middle age and older. There is a mixture of older and newer homes. Most of the residents are White, but there are some Black residents.

The worst part of town would be Holden Street which surrounds the university. It is usually congested with lots of traffic and college students. The street has one lane both ways. This street takes you right to the University of Central Missouri. Since it caters to the students, there are plenty of shops and restaurants lined along the street. The homes near the school are smaller, cheaper, and older. Most of them are rented out by college students.

The people in Warrensburg are extremely friendly which gives you the small hometown feeling you would expect. Even the students are, for the most part, well-behaved. Most of them stay in the downtown area which is where the bars and clubs are or they stay on campus. Most of the students come from cities close to Warrensburg and have a Midwestern attitude. There is a mixture of young and old - most of the residents are old and most of the students are young. Many residents are education. Warrensburg does have a blue-collar and farming presence but there are many residents that are white-collar which includes professors, teachers, and business owners. There is not a great presence of alternative lifestyles. The population is probably 70% white and 30% black.
Downtown AreaRestaurantsSchoolsSingle life
The downtown area is very active because it caters to the college students. There are plenty of bars and shops located in about a mile area. Located in the downtown area are the government buildings but they are a few blocks away from the shopping area.Warrensburg has some great restaurants. Rib Crib BBQ and Grill has some of the best BBQ in the area. Siam Restaurant is one of the favorites. Offering some of the best Thai food. Country Kitchen is popular among residents and students. The Warrensburg School District ranks high in the area for a small school district. The graduation rate is close to 95%. Many of the students graduate and attend the University of Central Missouri or some other school in the Missouri or Kansas area.Except for the presence of college students, Warrensburg is not really a good place for singles. However, since most college students are single that makes it a good place for singles. There are plenty of bars and clubs for singles.
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
The city has many railroads going through it, so it can be noisy, especially at night. There is private airport near Warrensburg but you will not notice it much.Warrensburg is a small town but it's much larger and active than Holden, MO, which is about 20 miles west of the city. Much of these is because of the college located in the city that brings a lot of activity and business. Compared to Lawrence, KS, another college town, Warrensburg is much smaller in college student population and size. Lawrence, KS is home to the University of Kansas which is a larger university. The crime rate in Warrensburg is lower than Lawrence. The only hospital in the city is Western Missouri Medical Center. It is a very good hospital with emergency care, inpatient, and outpatient services.Other than the University of Central Missouri's campus, some of the other places to visit is Cave Hollow Park. A spacious park to walk your dogs, jog along the trails, and even ride your horses. The Johnson County Historical Society is a museum that displays historic information about Warrensburg.
General comments
There is definitely a small hometown feel to the city. This is a small town with a large presence of farmers. Although the town is small, it's main street (Holden) feels like a regular busy city street with congestion, traffic, and places to eat and shop. It also feels like a college town when you see all of the college students. The city is very laid-back. It reminds you of Petticoat Junction or the Andy Griffith Show..
