The winters can be surprisingly cold. It's actually only a few degrees warmer than New York. Far less snow, which is good, but can easily be in 20's and 30's. Summers blazingly hot and humid, from May to October, in high 90's at times. It's everywhere. Very dangerous. The only less dangerous area is the northwest corner, up by Tenleytown.Northwest district=good. All else is bad, unless you like gunshot wounds. Even the "hip" Adams Morgan district is dangerous, and Dupont Circle is sort of on the border of it all.People pretend to be very friendly. They're a lot friendlier on the outside, than, say, New York.
Downtown AreaSchoolsSingle lifetown comparison vs.
Shopping is so-so. You may have to go into the suburbs to find what you need, unless you are in the Northwest district, which does have good shopping.Very safe if you have a gun and a bulletproof vest. Some, but they're kind of snooty. It's a government town. It's a museum town. It shuts down at night, except for a few areas like Dupont Circle.
General comments
Many people say it has a small town feel and if you come from, say, New York, it could even be true. Not a lot of skyscrapers, but it does have terrible traffic and you can't be fooled into thinking it's a small town, but it does have neighborhoods with a smaller town feel.
