Meghan Harris reports in this review:
WeatherHow much crime? What are the neighborhoods like? What are the people like?
West Chester has somewhat mild weather when it comes to Fall. Spring can bring heavy rain and Thunderstorms. Winter is known for its rough snowstorms. Summer, though it does not always get intensely hot, feels that way due to increased humidity.Being a college town, robberies and drunken disorderly conducts are known to be a more common occurrence. A few murders have occurred in the past few years but with a heavy police presence citizens feel safe. Road crimes such as speeding and causing accidents do happen on a daily basis.Homes between Gay and 322 are higher quality and a very nice place to live with parks and a golf club and a sense of security. This area is mostly white, upperclass. As are high to Downington Pike. Homes between Market and Union are very different. They are not well maintained and one does not feel safe driving down those streets. Farther down High street is the college and lots of college dorms. one are new buildings, some are old but well preserved.West Chester is a college town so there are a lot of younger, single, and educated people living in it. But it is also a very old town and an affluent one at that, so the are plenty of elderly, mostly blue collar, and families spanning from lower to upper class. It has a good mixture of white and afro american, as well as many foreign races. Most are warm and inviting and committed to helping their community.
Downtown AreaRestaurantsSchoolsSingle life
The shopping in West Chester is extensive and diverse. Most shops downtown are not chains, though there are a few scattered around.West Chester provides restaurants of all types from high class like Teca to homey like Gramm's Kitchen and DK Diner. There is seafood such as Doc Magrogan's and Cultured such as Kildare's Irish Pub and the Ram's Head. Some classics like Iron Hill Brewery are constant hot spots, but new restaurants are open up every month.West Chester provides the opportunity for multiple choices of location for every grade and include well educated and motivated teachers and coaches in each choice. Opportunities for trips and clubs and extra curricular activities are abounding in all schools.West Chester has a lively downtown scene, both at night and during the day, which can aide anyone looking to meet new people.
Noisetown comparison vs.Best hospitalTourist attractions
Busy one way streets lead to some car noises, a bustling epicenter provides lots of music and people on the street making noise, and the city is surrounded by 322 and 202, two major bypasses.Downingtown feels more run down and not as in touch with its history as West Chester. West Chester feels safer to live downtown than it does in Downingtown. Philadelphia is a hustle bustle city, while West Chester has its busyness but nowhere near that of a large city. West Chester provides affluence and small town together without overwhelming those living there.Chester County Hospital. A bit on the expensive side but has divisions for any health concern and is equipped with a helo pad should an airlift to another hospital be required. The downtown epicenter is the most interesting place in town to visit but West Chester is also not too far from parks and museums that provide families and people with entertainment all year long.
General comments
West Chester feels inviting, with its multitudes of events and open awareness with its schools. Anyone can find pretty much anything in West Chester, though it may not be large in quantity. West Chester is an old town and strives to protect and present its history in accurate and entertaining ways. There are parts that feel rundown and a little scary to walk through, but you are capable of enjoying the majority of the city without having to enter these areas.
