Weather | | How much crime? | | What are the neighborhoods like? | | What are the people like? |
The weather in Williams, Oregon can vary, regardless of what season it is. It's been known to snow in September! Overall, however, the summer months are tolerable, with it being humid once in a while. Winters involve alot of snow, and tend to get residents snowed in and electricity to get cut out. Heavy rains during the spring but fortunately, unlike other states or cities, no worries of hurricanes, tornadoes or anything of traumatic nature. | | As long as I have lived there (13 years), there have been no crimes. Neighbors are either incredibly friendly and neighborly or keep to themselves. I've never had any problems with neighbors, never had an argument or fight and have never had any thievery happen. | | Best parts of town are the back of Caves Camp Road (where I used to live), where you can travel to the mountains and go shooting, hiking or just sight seeing. There's even a few spots up there where you can set up camp and spend the night with friends. There's also a small waterhole at the top of the mountain. It's really peaceful and a great place to go to get out of the house for the day. There are no bad parts of Williams. I've literally been everywhere; driven everywhere and I grew up knowing people who lived in every area and there's no where that's less likely to be inhabited because of how "bad" the area might be. | | If you're neighborly, country-at-heart, talkative when you have to be, you'll fit in. When I was living there, there were mostly older people (40 and up), hippies, hicks, normal people alike. But all in all, there's nothing but good people. So if you're friendly and out going, you won't have a problem with Williams.Everyone is very down to earth and willing to help out a neighbor in need. If you're concerned about interacting with the people of Williams, keep in mind that houses aren't even that close together. So you won't have to worry about waking up, walking outside and having to talk to someone. |
Downtown Area | | Restaurants | | Schools | | Noise |
There really is no downtown area. You'll have to go to Grants Pass to do your shopping! | | Williams has one restaurant which serves burgers and foreign beers. Great food and a nice variety of beer with good service and friendly people. | | There's only one school in Williams and that's their elementary school. I went to that school during the 5th grade, having to go to Applegate Elementary 6th through 8th grade, located in Applegate. So you'll eventually have to transfer over. The teachers at Williams are very qualified and fun to be around. You'll never be disappointed with them. | | The only "unusual" noise you'll hear is the occasional cougar. Though not threatening, it is wise to be cautious when letting your pets out at night. If you're dog's frantically barking, don't let them out unless you know what it is they're making a fuss about. |
town comparison vs. | | Best hospital | | Tourist attractions | | General comments |
Grants Pass and Applegate are the two nearest, neighboring towns adjacent to Williams. Unlike Williams (which has limited shopping: gas station, restaurant and a small market), Grants Pass is the city right next to it. Grants Pass provides shopping centers, a movie theater and several restaurants. Applegate is quite small, however, in regards to shopping and entertainment. If you live in Applegate and want to go shopping and eating out, you're better of going into the next town, Medford. | | Though there is a local Fire Department to call if there's an emergency, the nearest hospital is in Grants Pass, 20 miles away. But the Fire Department is very efficient and can get you to emergency in no time at all. | | Nice places to visit are basically the mountains, where you can spend the day enjoying the breathtaking view of Williams from the mountaintops. | | The town feels like a small country backyard. There's gorgeous scenery (I was lucky enough to live in a "dome" type property, where there was a 360 degree view of the trees and mountains), good people and a great nature atmosphere. It's not something you forget, either. I've been moved out of Williams for over a year now and I still miss seeing the stars at night and watching the sunset at night on our porch. If you're tired of the city, Williams is the place to go. |
