Matthew Johnson's review of Carson Nevada
Are you thinking of moving or relocating to Carson, Nevada? Would you like to know what the quality of life is like living in Carson?
WeatherSafetyNeighborhoodsPeople
Decently large snowstorms in the winter, but mostly temperate. Gets very cold in the middle of winter and very hot in the middle of summer. Windy sometimes, but mostly not. High desert, so days with precipitation are few and far between.Crime is substantial. I have witnessed a car chase down 395, and when I worked in Walmart in South Carson we would see cops coming and going and telling us to stay put at least once a week. I have heard about major drug busts occasionally in the paper and oft times cars pulled over in front of the Walmart would end with the driver being put in the back of Cop cars.South Carson shopping center and Sunridge estates are the nicest parts of town. There are a lot of hispanics living near Carson high off Stewart Street and in Indian Hills, in South carson, west of 395. Mostly Whites overall in the whole town. Downtown, in the north most stretch of Main Street is also pretty nice: it has all of the Capitol buildings and nice parks with cool Shops and Caf's. The neighborhood around Nye street in north carson is average, full of blue collar workers. The young do not have much place in Carson city, there is only one high school, and all neighboring high schools hate them, including my own. There are many old people, many come to retire in Carson. Any interested in mining or Political Science, this is a great place, all other careers I can't imagine this town not being a dead end (there is a large GE plant in the town neighboring south, so maybe engineers?)

Good, if you like quirky hipster cafes and shops. South carson shopping center is your best bet for brand name stores (best buy, target, home depot, walmart, petco, loses, etc)Red hut, Res 395 Bar and Grill, there's a Chevy's and a Chili's. Other than that, nothing to stand out.Iffy. I did not attend them, but i visited occasionally for sports or to take tests. Carson High is new and nice from what i have seen but, many of the students are petty and like to vandalize to the point where they are no longer allowed to go into the parking lot during school.low. There are a few 18-30 year olds attending WNC in north carson, But other than that, you would have a better chance in Reno.

Highways 395 and 50 can be loud, but are easy to get away from.Gardnerville/Minden neighbors Carson to the south, but is much smaller. Though it is smaller, it has a higher water table and is greener. The people are nicer, and there are beautiful sierra Nevada mountains instead of big hills of dirt covered in sagebrush. There a few nice golf courses in carson, with Sunridge being the nicest, but there is also Oak something and east valley. The Genoa Lakes course and Genoa Resort course are both better.Carso-tahoe Medical center. Surprisingly good, known for cardiology center. My neighbor was head of OBGYN there, and he is a great guy.If you like golfing, Sunridge Golf course. If not, go to Tahoe, its the nicest place in 500 miles in any direction.
General comments
The town feels old and like it needs renovation in some places. I have lived in the neighboring town for almost 15 years, and the most we see of Carson is driving through it to Reno. If I had to select a town to live in, this city would unfortunately be near the bottom of the list. There is not a great opportunity for education or career advancement, or for singles.
