| Cleveland, Ohio experiences all four seasons with full intensity. However, Lake Erie is very close so there is a ton of lake effect weather. I live 20 miles south of Cleveland and we get a lot less rain and snow than Clevelanders do. Overall, there isn't any flooding or natural disasters though. There is A LOT of snow in the winter, but it doesn't affect driving or transportation for the most part. Summers are really pretty in Cleveland, perfect time for an Indians game. | | There is a lot of crime in Cleveland, especially if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Almost all the crime I hear on Northeastern Ohio news if from Cleveland. I've never experienced it and I've been to Cleveland hundreds of times. One time a car parked behind me got broken into. That's really it though. I was always in a good area, by the heart of the city. I've heard of murders in Cleveland and I've heard of people getting mugged. It's usually in the outskirts of Cleveland though. Still - be safe! I would recommend living in a suburb 20-30 minutes away from Cleveland so you can be safe. Cleveland has nothing that is worth living their for in my opinion. It has fun activities and events to go to but that's on the weekends. Not everyday.
MOST of the crime in Cleveland has to do with personal issues, however some of it is innocent. I'm sure you've heard of the Ariel Castro crime of girls locked in his basement for 10 years. So...the cops here aren't that great. A lot of the time, gunshots aren't even reported to the cops. | | You'll know when you see it. Huron Rd, Ontario St, Euclid Ave - all beautiful areas. The city has some great places to go - Rock N Roll hall of fame, art museums, Great Lakes science center, history museums, concerts, dining opportunities, festivals, etc. The Flats are generally pretty safe too. You'll all find this in the heart of the city. There are some modern apartments - such as Stonebridge Waterfront. Right by the lake, perfect view of the city.
The East side is really bad, most of the homes are run down, the schooling isn't too good and there is a lot of crime here. Areas by E 55th, Superior Ave, Lorain Ave, Franklin Ave, etc. If you take a wrong turn in Cleveland, you can find yourself in a very sketchy area. It may sound stereotypical...but it's not worth the risk. Sure the housing here is cheap, but is it worth living in a bad area? No. | | My white, conservative father grew up on the East side of Cleveland in a primarily african american school. Anyone can live in Cleveland. Usually, when you go to the city, most of the people are people who live outside of the city in suburbs who go there for their jobs, events, etc. There are tons of college students walking the streets. There are business men. There are black people, there are white people. There are homeless people. It's a city, so it is diverse. As long as you know what you're doing, you'll be fine here. |
| Downtown area is great - a lot of fun activities. However, there is no shopping in Cleveland. Seriously. No mall. No shopping. Just a few irrelevant stores. | | Melt bar and grilled is a must-see! Grilled cheese everywhere! I also love Flannery's Pub - great food and great beer. | | Terrible. I wouldn't recommend it, they are constantly losing money and teachers. Most don't have any electives. | | Yes, plenty of clubs and bars. |
| It's not like New York with the constant noises of traffic, but there are some noise sources such as a nearby airport and the occasional gunshot. (oops.) | | Akron and Coventry are two neighboring towns. In my opinion, Coventry would be the best to live in because it's urban, artistic, and full of culture. The houses here look victorian. There isn't any crime here either.
Cleveland has more opportunities than Akron, but they both have a lot of crime and poor communities. Coventry is close enough to Cleveland and Akron to experience the big events they have there without dealing with the day-to-day threat of crime. | | The Cleveland Clinic - one of the best hospitals in the country. That's something good that Cleveland has. | | The museums are nice. A lot of people love the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. |
