Jake Dempsey's review of Lakewood New Jersey
Are you thinking of moving or relocating to Lakewood, New Jersey? Would you like to know what the quality of life is like living in Lakewood?
WeatherSafetyNeighborhoodsPeople
The weather in Lakewood is remarkably average for the Mid-Atlantic Corridor. There are winters which are cold and wet, producing several feet of snow throughout the season. The extreme weather in this time of the year is typically a nor'easter which dumps several inches of snow and ice. In the summer months, we will typically see hot temperatures over long periods of time, producing many severe thunderstorms throughout the season as well as a rare hurricane landfall. The crime is Lakewood is minimized because it is an affluent area and also the home to some of the most well-trained police in the state. However, there is some crime in the form of theft, because some individuals from neighboring areas will come in and know that home owners are at work for the day, thus their home are more easy to break into and leave without notice. The only other bit of crime that is usually experienced in this town is drug use in the form of pills and recreational marijuana. The best part of town are those which are closest to Broad Street and the Main line in town. The houses here are some of the largest and most beautiful that the state has to offer. You will typically see multi-level Victorian homes as well as those built in the traditional style. The people who live in this area tend to be mostly white and upper class. The only bad part of this town is over by Jackson, where the houses are not the best quality and you begin to see rowhomes and apartments rather than older homes. The people who live here are typically white, with a bit of diversity. The people in this town tend to be middle aged, married, white collar, educated and also have an abundance of Jewish individuals. In fact we have one of the largest and most dedicated Jewish populations in the state. While there are several other religions in the town, they never fit in well with the Jewish families because of the conflict in religion, but everyone tends to be respectful. However, it is hard to have your voice heard in a town that has one prevailing voice that is driven by religion.
Downtown AreaRestaurantsSchoolsSingle life
The downtown shopping area is small, but still has some of the major retailers to ensure that you do not need to travel far to get what you need.Finnegan's Restaurant and Yussi's grill are two of the best restaurants that the town has to offer. The public schools in Lakewood are consistently ranked among the best in all of New Jersey as they turn out several high-ranked students and athletes. Many of the people who live in this town are already married, however, there are some nice parks and restaurants to meet other singles.
NoiseCompared to other placesBest hospitalTourist attractions
There is not much traffic except during the summer, but there is a small airport that has a fair amount of daily traffic. One of the neighboring towns is called Jackson. This town has more of an urban feel to it, with several large shopping areas and is home to Six Flags Great Adventure. As a result, it is also much busier than our town, but with better shopping and lower cost of living. Overall, it is better to live in Lakewood. Another neighboring town is called Howell, and it is a smaller, more rural type of town than outs. They are home to some of the nicest nature preserves in the state, but they lack people and shopping areas, especially major retailers. Overall, it is better to live in Lakewood.Monmouth Medical Center is one of the premier hospitals in the state with an extensive maternity ward and a good trauma center. The nicest places to visit around the town are the parks, historic religious houses, and nature reserves.
General comments
The town feels like one of the nicest places to live in the state. As the name states, there are many lakes and beautiful bodies of water to enjoy in this town, and the ocean is not even twenty minutes away. There are a lot of people and houses, but it feel more like a large suburb rather than a packed city full of people. The town is also very clean in the sense that there is next to no pollution.
