| Weather | | Safety | | Neighborhoods | | People | | Weather is absolutely beautiful here! You get all of the seasons in full! The summers her are so nice! No humidity! & warm with nice breezes! April definitely brings showers! & several other months as well! It is rainy & misty a lot here! But that is typical of the northwest! It brings all of the flowers,miss & lush vegetation! Winters are mild but can get very snowy rainy or icy for no more than a couple days in the late winter. | | This is one of the safest cities to live in. The crime rate is very low even in the undesirable parts of town! | | The NW is very nice. Higher end homes,apartments,and businesses. The NE is known for its creative arts district. It's moderately priced and away from the busy downtown area. I honestly don't know of any "bad" neighborhoods unless you are going on the very outskirts of town..the higher the number..the less desirable. | | The people are somewhat friendly. They definitely do not go out if their way to help but they are usually as courteous as they can be. There are good friendly people everywhere,but,Unfortunately certain negative attributes such as "passive aggressive" "snobby"or "elitist"
attitudes are common here. | | Downtown Area | | Restaurants | | Schools | | Single life | | It's very nice & constantly growing! The shopping districts are also easily divided by area-boutiques,malls,department stores, and high fashion is located primarily in the NW-while thrift stores & vintage boutiques flourish in the SE & all the creative arts you could dream of in the NE. You are sure to find whatever you are looking for! | | Gourmet food is a growing trend here! Along with a huge food truck industry & vegan empire. There are so many new restaurants it Is hard to keep up with them all. But whatever you are craving you are sure to find a perfect match for your taste buds! | | The public school system here is a hands on experience. With so many creative workshops and nature adventures it brings a new dimension to the learning process! | | Portland has one of the best scenes for singles! With a city full of community projects,workshops,bars,coffee shops,strip clubs,etc. it has a place & a taste for everyone to get out and meet others who enjoy the same things! | | Noise | | Compared to other places | | Tourist attractions | | General comments | | The city is completely divided by bridges,ports,& trains,so there is alot of noise but they are nice comforting noises,-tugboats and distant trains and planes. | | Portland is strange because it is s big city in a small town! It is constantly growing and progressing,yet lacks the busy rush of big cities. Everyone knows each other & is in no rush. Patience and leisure are welcomed. | | Waterfront Park is a gorgeous landscape located perfectly downtown surrounded by the view of all the bridges,birds,and boats that adorn the city | | As a whole,the town is positive,progressive,productive,and passionate. It is a beautiful city with so much to offer! |

| Weather | | Safety | | Neighborhoods | | People | | The weather in Oregon? well, it rains a lot and when it rains, it's cold. There is not a lot of humidity here, just rain. We don't have things like floods or hurricanes or deep snow. The fall and spring are beautiful because of all the trees and flowers. Then, we are thankful for all the rain. The summers are not too hot, nor humid, averaging around 75 in the summer and about 40 in the winter. 55-70 in the other seasons. | | Crime? Well, I have lived here for many years and have seen and heard of all kinds. Seen theft, had it happen to me, seen people beat up many times, people get robbed, but right now I think the biggest problem is the drugs like meth and crank and all the crime that stems from some of the people using it. | | The good places in Portland I would have to say are out at Jantzen Beach, or Sandy, or Troutdale, right outside of Portland. North Portland used to be the bad place to be, but they have cleaned it up. Either that or I see it differently since my stay in Chicago. A lot of people love to visit the Hawthorn District, because it is a relaxed place to walk around, with a lot of cool shops and food. | | It depends what area you are in, and how you are treating the people while you are there. If you're nice, they'll be nice. If your rude, don't expect kindness. Treat people here, the way you want to be treated. | | Downtown Area | | Restaurants | | Schools | | Single life | | Downtown is awesome. There is a bit of everything and a lot going on. There are a lot of people involved with political issues who protest in front of the courthouses, there are always people and something gooing on in "The Square" which is a place located right in the heart of Down town Portland. This is where they put the Christmas Tree, and hold many many events and always have something cool going on. There are all kinds of shops, and durring the summer they have an area down town that had a bunch of different tables set up from all different types of people and cultures selling their items or food and It is amazing. They call it the Saturday Market and its open on the weekends all summer long. | | I would have to say the best restaurants are The Keg Steak House, Red Lobster, Saylers, Roadhouse, and all of the Mc Minimums restaurants. You have to try the Mc Minimums. | | The schools are pretty good, and they have a lot of alternative schools too. They have David Douglas, which is pretty popular for the kids to want to go to when they get to high school. They have franklin and Roosevelt in North Portland, and honestly I think the teachers are great, the kids however.... need their parents more involved in their childrens lives.At the age of 16 I was pushed out of the way while one student from Roosevelt stabbed another girl while waiting for the city public bus, so I could go home. Roosevelt and Jefferson are close together and they were doing a thing for a while where Jefferson was paying their students to go transfer over to Roosevelt. Jefferson had a worse rap. | | Oh yes, there is plenty of chances for singles of all ages. You just find the things in the area that you're interested in and get involved with them and before you know it, you'll be meeting all kinds of people in no time. | | Noise | | Compared to other places | | Best hospital | | Tourist attractions | | if you live anywhere near Delta Park, youre going to hear the race track all the time, or if you live near the airport, well, that's going to suck. And I wouldn't stay anywhere near a train track like the one off Columbia and 42, or the one out in Hillsboro. Had one in my back yard but not for long, needless to say, I moved. | | Theres a lot going on in Portland, and everyones busy doing something. The further you go out, in any direction, the more mellow it gets. As soon as you get into Beaverton, places start to get more spread out, same with gresham, and Clackamas, the only other direction is across the bridge to Washington. It doesnt matter which direction you go, all the little towns get smaller and smaller, with houses spread out more and more. People are more calm, more relaxed, and seem happier. | | Portland Adventist, Mt. Hood Medical Center, or Oregon Health and Science University. Don't go to Providence of 42nd. They wont say anything and just sit there and watch people pass away. | | There is the Japanese Gardens which is like walking right into Japan, or the Chinese Gardens, located down town, and you wouldn't even know it was there unless you were told, it too is like walking right into China. There is the Rose gardens, by the Japanese garden, There is the Lloyd Center, or Clackamas Town Center for those who like the malls,or a nice walk on the water front. There is the Pittock Mansion that people love to visit, or going and hanging out on the island of Jantzen Beach, and eating at the Island Cafe. One of my favourite things! | | General comments | | | | | | | | This town feels like home in a way because I know it like the back of my hand. After having been and lived all over, and experienced what its like to go to a brand new town, not knowing anyone or where anything is, this is comforting to me. | | | | | | |

| Weather | | Safety | | Neighborhoods | | People | | The weather is very damp throughout fall and winter, and rain is frequented along with some high winds at times. The heaviest time for rain are in the spring when sunny days exist between rain squalls. The saying goes, if it's raining in Portland, it's snowing on Mt. Hood. That's where a good portion of the shows are accumulated and where recreation of every kind take place. But the snow can cover the city with a heavy blanket of snow very quickly. There have been times when the show was bout 2-3 feet deep, that happens about one time per year and lasts about 2-5 days on average. However the summers there are pleasant and warm between 75-85 degrees, and can have small rains cool things down. | | The crimes range from drug related violence and robbery to and in some instance include murders. hearing of close friends being murdered have been within my own circle of friends and family. Physical violence as with assaults happen within the more impoverished areas of the city. | | "felony flats" is from South east Foster Road,South to the Johnson Creek which was the boundaries between Portland and Milwaukee.The area running along the Max train line from 122nd to 182nd are where African American and Latino gangs are active or a regular level. The downtown area of Portland in old town/ Chinatown.
The areas bordering the downtown area is where the more affluent live and the hillsides are scattered about with beautiful homes surrounded by beautiful forested park lands. Of the many parks in Portland each one is surrounded by neighborhoods of beautiful homes standing many generations. The Laurelhurst area has two main mansions that border the park with gateways leading to the entrances. Mount Tabor is another area that has an inactive volcanic blowhole from whats called the cascade volcanic range. These neighborhoods are historical areas of Portland. The more rural areas are neighborhoods that have created business's and shops, one area known as the Hawthorne district is well known by tourists and neighbors alike. | | Most of Portland id friendly and inviting to meet, as well as courteous and approachable. The type of lifestyles vary but for the most part has a home feel to the social life. Many shops have coffee where people gather and meet. The various mix of people from other countries are blended in but also have certain areas where their business thrives. The Russian areas are in the southeast area an the Asian areas run along southeast 82nd drive. The middle eastern community play a strong roll in the business's as well as many Mexican families are very strong in community affairs than in most cities. The people in Portland have their problems like any others but the overall willingness to help one another seems to thrive. | | Downtown Area | | Restaurants | | Schools | | Single life | | Shopping in one of the covered malls such as the Pioneer Square has a multitude of stores, as well as the downtown shopping area. Transportation to the Lloyd Center just over the river is accessible using the MAX train. The downtown ares is kept clean and safe as well. | | The Ringside in downtown park avenue, Bamboo Sushi on Northwest twenty third, and some of the medium range places like the Mandarin and then of course the 24 hour breakfast place at the south east side at the foot of the Ross Island bridge called "The original pancake house" | | Recently the Pubic education system went through tough negotiations with teachers unions, in which they won. The teachers here are very passionate and their students and the student seem to like their teachers and understand they are under stressors from the strained system. Th overall curriculum has been producing goo teaching and is still under some reformations. | | The social life is robust in many ways because of the huge bicycle ridership of commuters. The area has no shortage of micro brew pubs and organic shopping areas throughout town. | | Noise | | Compared to other places | | Best hospital | | Tourist attractions | | The airport runs along marine drive and planes have to fly over the North and Northeast neighborhoods to land. Other noise sources are the bridge construction taking place where there are a few neighborhood on both side of the river that have an increase in large equipment traffic. Surrounding communities that are around industrial areas in the outer northeast and southeast have some noise factors as well. | | Other cities around the area are smaller versions of Portland but even more neighborly in ways that they all know one another due the a much lower population density. | | One of the finest hospitals is the Oregon State Health University which is a well funded cancer research facility and child treatment centers. | | Many ares are popular like the Hawthorn district, the Mississippi shops and restaurants are trendy and used as a place along bicycle commuters. The bicycle paths in Portland cover some 180 miles of scenic routes. The Washington Park Rose gardens and the Oregon Zoo are located in the west hills as well as the famous Japanese Garden | | General comments | | | | | | | | A slower moving pace than most cities. People are friendly and kind and the diversity in characters and lifestyles are so welcomed here. | | | | | | |
