The weather in this area hits both sides of the bell curve. For one, the summers are very hot and humid, with a great deal of rain and thunderstorms. There has been some hurricanes that have hit the area as well, but for the most part they are rare. The winters are long and cold, and produce a great deal of snow from the storms that come up the east coast as well as those that come down from the great lakes. There is not much crime in this area that does not revolve around criminal driving actions along with a little bit of drug activity, but usually only the dealing and possession of marijuana. There is a heavy police presence in the downtown area of the city and they tend to keep the crime minimal. There are many people who speed down the main line since it is a long, straight road, but with all of the speed traps they are usually caught and punished. The best parts of town are outside of the downtown area, where there are suburban areas that have large, multi-level homes with gorgeous lands. The people in these areas are mostly white, upper middle class, and are well-educated. Typically, anything that is on Mamaroneck Road is going to be a nice area. The only bad part of the town is located in the downtown, "city" area of White Plains. There are some areas that are not as nice, with smaller homes and also this is where the majority of the crime occurs. The people in this town are very friendly, well-meaning, and busy. They tend to be young to middle aged, married, educated, white individuals. There is also a strong Hispanic and Latino community in this section of the town. Typically, anyone that is very poor or uneducated will not fit in well in this town because they will not be able to make friends with the upper middle class individuals, or they will be perceived as the perpetrators of crimes.

The downtown shopping area is large and wonderful, with access to retail shops as well as upper-scale shops such as Nordstrom. The best restaurants are the Melt Sandwich Shoppe and Hudson Grille. The public schools here are wonderful, with some of the best elementary teachers available in the entire state. There are some great places to meet others in the downtown shopping area as well as at some of the local attractions.
NoiseCompared to other placesBest hospitalTourist attractions
There is the traffic on Mamaroneck Avenue which is just about a highway, but aside from that there is no other sources of noise. One of the neighboring towns is called Scarsdale. They are closer to New York City and they have a large downtown shopping area, but their town lacks the closeness and the amazing police force that is found in White Plains. The cost of living is higher as well, making White Plains a better place to live. Another close town is called Valhalla, which is more of a suburban area than White Plains, with nice houses that are surrounded by open lands. While it is a nice town, White Plains has better shopping and access to highways, making it a better place to live. The local hospital is named White Plains Hospital and it is one of the leading care areas available in New York. The nicest places to visit are the downtown shopping area as well as the library.
General comments
The town is absolutely amazing in the sense that you can live in the suburban part of town and go to parks, beaches, and country clubs and never see an outlet mall. However, in the downtown area of White Plains, it is a legitimate city, with skyscrapers and such. It is also home to several important businesses such as Pepsi. The town is remarkably clean and the marriage between the urban and suburban gives it a completely unique feeling.
